Cambridge has one Liberal Democrat MP, Julian Huppert.

The parliamentary constituency of Cambridge covers 13 of the 14 wards represented on Cambridge City Council. Each ward is represented by 3 city councillors and one county councillor.

The Cambridge Liberal Democrats currently run the City Council, with 21 out of 42 councillors.

Additionally, 6 of the 14 county councillors within the city boundary are Liberal Democrats.

    MP Julian Huppert has condemned an attempt to stop Cambridge City Council from adopting a planning policy to protect the city's pubs.

    Julian has tabled a Commons' Early Day Motion expressing anger over the move by the British Beer and Pub Association to take the council's decision to judicial review.

    Coffee shop, Hot Numbers has caused a stir in the city winning first place in the monthly heat of MP Julian Huppert's competition Discovering Cambridge.

    The shop in Gwydir Street was voted the city's favourite in the coffee shop category of the competition designed to find the best independent businesses.

    MP Julian Huppert has pressed the case for Cambridge's new Science Park station with Rail Minister, Simon Burns today (Thursday, January 31) at a four county rail summit to push forward the campaign to improve rail travel across East Anglia.

    Mr Burns told delegates, which included MPs from across the region, council officers, business representatives, Network Rail and train operators that the station was one the government wanted to open.

    He said the decision will give youngsters a wide range of skills, equipping them effectively for the digital age and giving them vast opportunities in further education and the workplace.

    News that Cambridge can bid for a share of a £30 million government fund to improve its streets for cyclists has been welcomed by the city's MP, Julian Huppert.

    The announcement came from Liberal Democrat Transport Minister, Norman Baker and Cambridge is one of the cities selected to bid for the funding.

    Cambridge MP Julian Huppert will fall in with members of the city's Territorial Army next month when he marks the retirement of an officer who has served for 39 years.

    Julian has been invited to present Warrant Officer Stuart Smart, 61, with a certificate commemorating his time in the TA.

    During the last 18 years, Mr Smart has served as Shooting officer for the Cambridge University Officer Training Corps and four years ago was deployed on a successful operational tour to Iraq.

    Cambridge MP Julian Huppert is taking his fight for a fairer deal for the city's sixth form and further education colleges to the Treasury on Tuesday (January 29).

    He will put pressure on the government to end the unfair rule which means the colleges have to pay VAT on goods and services which sixth forms attached to schools are exempt from paying.

    Julian joined MPs and Peers at the Palace of Westminster for the national launch of Enough Food for Everyone IF which brings together 100 of Britain's leading development charities and faith groups.

    MP Julian Huppert is supporting a call to the government today (Thursday, January 24) to lower the voting age to 16.

    Julian has co-sponsored a motion which, if successful would see 16 and 17-year-olds given the chance to vote in national and local elections.

    "Our young people want the chance to play a full part in society and the opportunity to shape the world in which they live and giving them the vote helps them to do that," said Julian.

    Cambridge MP Julian Huppert's Bill to protect independent shops and pubs could be debated in the House of Commons tomorrow (Friday, January 25).

    The Local Services (Planning) Bill, which would give power to planning authorities to prevent the demolition or change of use of a pub or local independent shop without planning permission, will get its Second Reading.
