MP welcomes local bus powers

David Howarth, MP for Cambridge, has today welcomed news that the Government is putting together plans for local authorities to have control over bus timetables.
David commented:
"It is crucial that local authorities have the powers to regulate the pricing and planning of bus services in their area so that they can make sure that local residents get the service they require.

"However we need to know whether these powers will be under the control of the County or the District Councils. Previous experience is that the County Council is not always best placed to represent the interests of Cambridge residents in providing good and reliable public transport. It is the City Council who has often stepped forward to provide the subsidies and support to enable public transport in the City to improve."
