City steps in to fund traffic calming

July 17, 2007 7:25 PM

Lib Dem City Councillor for Trumpington, Sheila Stuart, has welcomed proposals to stop rat running on Coronation Street.

At the Cambridge Traffic Area Joint Committee yesterday, Cambridge City Council agreed to fund speed bumps to reduce speeds on the residential street. Local residents and residents associations have been very supportive of the proposals, which were also backed by South Area Committee.

Councillor Stuart commented:

"I am delighted that traffic calming is finally going to be installed in Coronation Street. This is a dangerous rat run that is a worry to local parents and other pedestrians.

"However it is very disappointing that important road safety measures like this have not been introduced by the County Council which is the highways authority. Instead Cambridge City Council has had to step in to fund the works."

The works will be formally advertised in the autumn and if no objections are raised the building works will then go ahead.
