Cambridge protests to save Brookfields Hospital

October 26, 2007 12:18 PM

Ahead of tomorrow's protest at Brookfields Hospital, local MP David Howarth has repeated his call for wards for the elderly to be saved.

Mr Howarth will be joining local campaigners and residents to protest against the proposed closures in an event organised by Cambridge resident Lil Speed and Cambridge Older People's Enterprise. The protest will take place outside Brookfields Hospital at 11am on Saturday 27th October.

Mr Howarth commented:

"Brookfields Hospital is a valuable resource for the whole of Cambridge providing excellent care for people needing in-patient rehabilitation and specialist continuing care. Many of the people who have written to me have friends and relatives who have used Brookfields and praised the very high standard of care at the hospital.

"There has now been some movement by the Primary Care Trust and they are willing to consider several options for the site, including the possibility of keeping the wards open so it is important that we continue to keep up the pressure."
