"Let your talents shine", MP tells youngsters

June 4, 2009 11:27 AM

Shine logoCambridge schools and youth clubs are being encouraged by the city's MP David Howarth to let their talents shine by taking part in a national festival.

Youngsters can show off their achievements in sport, science and innovation, design and engineering, drama, art and a host of other areas by taking part in the Shine Festival.

The festival takes place between July 6 and 10 and can include schools' end-of-year events, achievements over the last year or events organised specifically for Shine Week.

Mr Howarth said: "There is a great deal of excellent work taking place in our schools and youth clubs and this is an excellent way to showcase that work.

"There is a wealth of talent among the city's young people and this is an opportunity to show what they can do. I would encourage everyone to take part in this festival and celebrate that talent."

Last year over one million young people took part in the festival from 2,500 schools nationwide.

Schools who sign up via the Shine website at www.shineweek.co.uk receive a creative kit containing all the basics they need to get involved.
