Shoppers drive up figures at city centre car parks

Christmas shoppers are pouring into Cambridge pushing figures at the city centre car parks up by as much as 25 per cent compared to the same period last year.
Despite the credit crunch, business appears to be booming with all but one of the five major car parks reporting increases.
Overall, between November 6 and November 15, the car parks reported increases of around 11 per cent. On some days, drivers parking at the Grafton Centre car parks increased by 25 per cent.
At times over the weekend there were only 150 spaces left across all the city centre car parks.
Cambridge City Executive Councillor for Growth, Sian Reid said: "This is excellent news.
I am optimistic that the increase in the car parking figures will be reflected in higher turnover in the shops, cafes and restaurants.
"It is clear that people see Cambridge as a city with plenty to offer. I hope that this will encourage new businesses to make it their home."
