Howarth backs petition urging future government to support armed forces

December 21, 2009 11:21 AM

Royal British Legion logoA Royal British Legion petition calling on a future government to support the armed forces and their families has been backed by Cambridge MP David Howarth.

The petition is being run in conjunction with a Legion manifesto which calls on all parties to pledge their support in the run up to the General Election.

Members want politicians to agree to a range of promises including improving and keeping the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme under annual review and making NHS priority treatment work for veterans with injuries caused by service in the forces.

Mr Howarth said: "It is the politicians who make the decision for our service personnel to go to war and they should take seriously their moral duty to support them and their families.

"I am delighted to be able to give my support to this petition and I hope the Royal British Legion manifesto pledges can be incorporated in the election manifestos of all the parties."
