Julian Huppert, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Cambridge will condemn the government for failing to tackle the unprecedented crisis of climate change when he addresses party members and supporters on Sunday.

He will also accuse Labour of leaving jobs, homes and businesses vulnerable to a severe recession, backing a call for radical reform of government economic policies.

Julian will be speaking in support of the motion "Growth that lasts: A fair, green and sustainable economy" at the Lib Dem's spring conference in Birmingham.

He said: "This government has made many hollow promises about tackling climate change. Now with an election looming, it has suddenly changed track on 12 years of policy and assured voters that it is committed to doing the right thing.

"Labour cannot be trusted to tackle climate change and it cannot be trusted with our fragile economy. We have an opportunity to invest in green technologies which would create green jobs and a sustainable economy in the long term.

"We need investment in renewable energy, action to bring empty homes back into use and rewards for people who make green investments in their home."

Julian will also be talking to the Association of Liberal Democrat Engineers and Scientists about science, technology and climate change.

"These are the people who are working at the forefront of technology that could really make a difference to our long term economic stability and commitment to protecting the future for generations to come," he said.

And he has been invited to speak at the conference rally when he will tell delegates: "Not all local politics is about local issues. People in Cambridge care deeply about their country, and about the role we play in the world.

"They want a party that fights for its values, for fairness, at every level, from the parish council, to Westminster, to the EU and the UN. The international is local, because human rights and the rule of law are all our responsibility. Cambridge gets that. The Lib Dems get that too.'"
