County parking review too slow for frustrated residents

May 1, 2012 11:11 AM

Amanda TaylorA county council review over commuter parking outside Cambridge homes is progressing too slowly for frustrated residents and they want answers.

Householders living near the city's Addenbrooke's Hospital and Long Road and Hills Road sixth form colleges have called on their Liberal Democrat councillors to try to speed up a county-led area parking review.

Queen Edith's Councillors, Amanda Taylor and Geoff Heathcock have responded by inviting Cambridgeshire County Council officers to attend Cambridge City Council's South Area Committee meeting on July 16 to give residents an update.

Cllr Taylor said: "Most residents are fed up with commuter parking outside their home. Drivers park there to attend Addenbrooke's Hospital or go to the sixth form colleges and residents find it hard to get in and out of their drives or park outside their homes. We need to make sure that commuters are parking safely and not putting residents at risk; better still, they could use the Park and Ride sites or travel by bike or bus.

"Cambridge City Council is powerless to act here because this is a county council responsibility. An area review is underway but progress is extremely slow.

"We have invited the county council highways officers to come and update local residents."

The meeting will take place at Cherry Hinton Village Centre.
