Council tenants' rent stolen by Government

6.25.45pm GMT Mon 7th Nov 2005

Millions of pounds of council tenants' rent, that would otherwise have been spent by the Lib Dem City Council on improvements to council estates in Cambridge, has been taken from Cambridge by the government to spend on housing in other cities.

Labour is already penalising tenants in Cambridge for voting to reject privatisation of their homes and is now giving less money to councils for repairs than it gives to areas where council housing has been privatised.
