• Cambridge City Council is to explore a community self provision scheme on its residential site on the Orchard Park development

• The scheme will involve potential individual owners coming together to plan and design the scheme in conjunction with the council and a development partner

• The Strategy & Resources Scrutiny Committee approved the move at a meeting on Monday of this week

• Council officers will now work up in detail how a community build scheme could be implemented

• The overall Orchard Park development sits within the South Cambridgeshire District Council area, but Cambridge City Council is one of the land owners on the site

Cllr Rod Cantrill, Executive Councillor for CS&R commented:

"I am very excited by the scheme. The approach is innovative and probably one of the first sites of this size in the UK to be approached in this manner. Where done elsewhere, there has been a strong community benefit and often high levels of sustainability"
