Due to the fact that Cambridgeshire Families for Sustainable Travel were only willing to publish yes-no answers to their questions Liberal Democrat Candidates in the City Council Elections are publishing their full responses separately, because in some situations context and recognition of implications are important.
YES. Safety including children is the priority we would expect in all decisions relating to highway matters, and we don’t see that as in general opposition to any particular type of road user.
YES, recognising any impacts on neighbouring streets and mitigating for them.
YES. We want to see more people opt for walking, wheeling and public transport, as set out in our response to the manifesto of the Sustainable Transport Alliance of which your organisation is a part (https://www.cambridgelibdems.org.uk/news/article/cambridge-lib-dem-response-to-sustainable-travel-alliance-manifesto) and this will need more and safer space for them. Use of cars will still be necessary, although hopefully at a lower level, and we would want both to co-exist under safe conditions.
YES. This is the approach of the Lib Dem-led County Council, where it is appropriate.
YES. We will continue to advocate for the availability of effective local enforcement powers and their use to increase safety and reduce nuisance. Where pavement parking has historically been explicitly formalised in a few parts of the city, there would need to be neighbourhood discussion about whether and how to proceed.
