Rory Clark in Darwin Green

Rory's Campaign for a new School in Darwin Green

I am calling on Barratt David Wilson Homes and the Labour Government to immediately address the critical school infrastructure crisis in our community.

The repeated delay in delivering the promised secondary school in Darwin Green has created an unacceptable situation for local families. Chesterton Community College, North Cambridge Academy, and Impington Village College are critically oversubscribed, leaving families with limited options and children displaced from their local communities.

This year, 60 new Year 7 students from our area were allocated to schools outside Cambridge, separating them from their local community and creating unnecessary stress and disruption. Whilst most were able to be reallocated closer to home, this creates an unnecessary added stress in an already anxious transition to secondary school.

The situation is being further exacerbated by a devastating £14.7m government spending cut in Cambridgeshire schools for 2024-2025, which means a reduction of £172 per pupil. This funding shortfall threatens the quality of education our children receive and puts additional strain on an already struggling system.

The Labour Party's slow response to updating school admission collaboration requirements has only compounded these challenges. Their inaction has created unnecessary complexity and stress for families trying to navigate an increasingly difficult school placement system.

Will you sign our petition to demand that Barratt David Wilson Homes stop delaying and build the school they promised?
