WELCOME FOR COUNCIL SUPPORT IN FIGHT TO RETAIN CITY CENTRE POST OFFICE
Cambridge Liberal Democrat councillors succeeded last night in winning cross party backing from Cambridge City Council in the fight to keep the city’s sole dedicated post office on St. Andrew’s Street. Earlier this month the city’s main post office was listed among 115 nationwide at risk of closure nationwide.
Speaking after the debate, Cllr Tim Bick, who represents the city centre on the council, welcomed the support.
“It’s great news that we are all united in trying to keep what everyone expects to find on the high street of a major regional city: a trusted, public service with knowledgeable staff, open lengthy hours, close to public transport and physically accessible to all.
“Last night I posted my own protest letter to the Managing Director of the Post Office and I’d like everyone who agrees to register their opposition too. The best way of showing that support is to sign our petition which can be found at www.cambridgelibdems.org.uk/postoffice. Over 600 people have already done so and we’re looking for lots more from people who depend on our post office.”
